Norwood recently completed the transformation of a 175-year-old building on the Schuylkill River’s banks to serve as Citylight’s new Manayunk campus. Navigating challenges due to its location in a flood zone, its status as a historic structure, and the project’s aggressive carbon goals, the team worked collaboratively with the owner and design team to ensure its successful delivery. The new church features a 500-seat worship space as well as educational and pre-function areas on the second floor. The ground level offers parking space and is otherwise unoccupied to avoid flood damage. A rooftop photovoltaic system was designed to help lower the facility’s operational carbon footprint.
